Once a pharmacy, the history behind the James Gallery and Soda Fountain is rivaled only by the creamy homemade ice cream served here. It is a small beach made even smaller when the tide is up. When driving down 154/ Great Hammock Road, be careful not to pass it as just a parking lot. In the off season you can park here anytime but between Memorial Day and Labor Day a beach pass is required and granted only to Old Saybrook residents. This par 35, 9 hole course overlooking Long Island Sound is open to the public. Reservations can be made 24 hours in advance. Some challenging holes for novice or more experienced players.
